Dr. Haytham Shabayek is a Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. Having completed his M.B.B.CH at Cairo University in 1996, followed by a Master’s in Psychiatry and Neurology. He has also achieved doctorate degree (MD) in General Psychiatry from Al Azhar University, Egypt. Moreover, Dr Shabayek, in addition to his degree and experience in Adult Psychiatry, he has also received training in the field of child psychiatry at Al Azhar University between the years 2008 and 2015. His MD thesis was in the field of ADHD in children. He is registered as a consultant in psychiatry with the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Shabayek brings over 25 years of experience in psychiatry working with adults and children. His career began in 1998 at the Police Academy in Cairo, transitioning to Vice President of Psychiatry and Neurology Departments for Police Hospitals in Egypt, and Specialist of Psychiatry at Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital. In 2005, he moved to the UAE, leading the Neuro-Psychiatry Department at Dar Al Shifa Hospital, and later establishing the first Mental Health and Psychiatry Center in the Eastern UAE region managed by the Ministry of Health where he would work for a decade. Dr. Shabayek also served across several Burjeel and Medeor Group Hospitals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, initiating significant mental health programs and eventually becoming the lead psychiatrist for the group in 2018 where he took on a broader role of raising community awareness and building scientific committees for a wider impact in the field. Dr. Shabayek enriched his clinical practice with academic contributions, serving as Adjunct Faculty at UAE University for several years, where he combined his extensive field expertise with academic pursuits to train the next generation of medical professionals.
Dr. Shabayek is a notable advocate of mental health awareness with a significant social media following, and an expert in managing psychological challenges in sensitive and high-stress professions and populations including the military and police and security related jobs, and higher managerial levels of sensitive occupational sectors.
His affiliations include international chapters of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, and regional prestigious organizations including UAE Psychiatric Association, National Egyptian Association of Psychiatrists and Neuropsychiatrists, Egyptian Association of Pediatric Neuropsychiatry, and Egyptian Syndicate of Medicine.
