Mr. Shane Govender is a Clinical Psychologist at ACPN. He earned his master’s degree in clinical
psychology from the University of Johannesburg (2009), an undergraduate degree (2003), and an
honors degree in psychology in social sciences (2004) from the University of Pretoria. He is a
certified provider of trauma releasing exercises (TRE) and holds clinical psychology licenses with
the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, and the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
With over a decade of diverse experience in mental health clinics, hospitals, private practice, and
medico-legal and forensic settings, Mr. Govender specializes in individual psychotherapy for
adolescents and adults. His expertise covers a wide array of issues, including mood disorders, PTSD,
adjustment disorders, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, substance abuse, stress management, and
self-development. He is also proficient in psychological, intellectual/cognitive, neuropsychological,
and personality assessments.
Mr. Govender adopts an eclectic therapeutic approach, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy,
interpersonal psychotherapy, solution-focused therapy, and positive psychology to create a safe,
empathic environment for clients to navigate emotional and psychological challenges towards
optimal mental health.
