Dr. Mena Shehata is Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. She graduated in medicine from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 2007 and completed Psychiatry residency in Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar in 2013, also attaining Arab Board in Medical Specializations in Psychiatry. She is registered member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK since 2015. Dr. Shehata underwent specialist training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Qatar and Australia and is registered psychiatrist in Abu Dhabi – UAE, Australia, and Qatar.
Dr. Shehata’s experience in psychiatry spans over eight years working in culturally diverse populations across the world. She started out as integral member in launching the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in HMC, Qatar in 2014. There, she ran specialized clinics for neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD and ADHD. Dr. Shehata relocated to Australia in 2016 where she worked in perinatal, child and adolescent mental health and therapy services until 2022.
Dr. Shehata’s interests are in understanding biology and psychosocial factors associated with early experiences and symptoms of mental illness. Therefore, Dr. Shehata believes in early intervention and works closely with new and expectant mothers to identify and treat the signs of mental illness that can affect both the mother and child. She also cares for children and adolescents suffering from psychotic disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, personality disorders and complex trauma as well as neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and ASD. She works collaboratively with youth and their families and caregivers on setting personalized, effective treatment plans in achieving functional recovery and addressing their social and emotional wellbeing.
