Frederick van Wyk - ACPN

Frederick van Wyk

Frederick van Wyk has joined ACPN from Cape Town, South Africa, where he worked as a counselling psychologist in private practice. He gained a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Johannesburg in 1997. He also completed a BA Honours degree in Psychology and BA in Personnel Management.

Prior to joining ACPN, Frederick worked in private practice for 11 years in Cape Town. There he worked with children and parents – individually, in groups and in schools. He often lectures parents and teachers on childhood emotional health.

Frederick joined ACPN in 2017 and is working with children who have experienced trauma and abuse, who are fearful and depressed, and find adjustment difficult. Children with speech delays, autism and ADHD receive help as he uses child-friendly therapies that assist them best. Some of his approaches he uses are play-therapy, sand tray therapy, DIR Floortime – for younger children, and DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) and EMDR for older children and teenagers.

He also does scholastic assessments (for all scholars) and career guidance (for older teens).
