Charmaine Traylor obtained a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Psychology from the University of the Free State in 2002. Ms. Traylor completed a Bachelor’s degree at the same institution in 2000. She remains a licensed practitioner of psychology with the Health Professions Council in South Africa, registered under her maiden name of Charmaine Pretorius.
Ms. Traylor has 19 years of experience in the field of mental health. Before transferring to Canadian Medical Center in Abu Dhabi in January 2009, she worked as a private practitioner in South Africa. During her time in private practice, Ms. Traylor was contracted by a number of schools to work with teenagers experiencing mental health issues and to provide education about psychology. She also worked at a mental health institution in South Africa, helping teens and adults struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
Ms. Traylor has experience working with adults and teenagers through relationship counselling and family counselling, as well as treating anxiety disorders, depression, bariatric surgery evaluations, eating disorders, personality disorder, alcohol problems, addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), borderline personality disorder, gender identity disorders (GID) and performing psychometric assessments to assist in career guidance. Ms. Traylor’s practice, although informed from many traditions, is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy. Ms. Traylor also has experience using hypnotherapy in sports psychology and other areas as a technique for treating addiction and anxiety.
